IRIDIUM DOORS CREATES THE SAILS OF THE FILADELFIA STADIUM IN TURIN

We have replaced the infills with special blinding systems.

Innovation: automated packet blinding

Technical challenge: poles up to 20 metres high

Technology and safety: visual and acoustic alarms

The context

The Filadelfia Stadium of the Torino Football Club S.p.A was the place where the legend of the Grande Torino began and is still in the hearts of Torino fans. By the way, the Torino Stadium Torino is located in Borgo Filadelfia, an area with high population density. This fact is not a superfluous detail, because the team’s need for privacy arises precisely from the fact that the housing is in the near vicinity of the stadium.

The current situation

The Filadelfia Foundation, in order to guarantee the players privacy during training, originally installed an automatic system of sails, unfortunately there were some problems and didn’t work properly. So, it was decided to replace them with temporary blinds that could be quickly removed as soon as a new system was found that could solve the problem.
This solution resolved the privacy issue but it was not intended to be permanent.

The request

Torino FC thus decided to develop a new system to ensure privacy during training sessions. IRIDIUM DOORS took over making their request possible, replacing the current wind-worn blinds.

The solution

An innovative project was developed: installing automated shading systems within the pennons - up to 20 metres high - positioned around the perimeter of the Stadium to prevent visibility inside the field during training sessions.

The technical challenges of this project were innumerable, one in particular: preventing the pennons from breaking down in case of excessive wind stress. In fact, in order to guarantee the opening of the canopy, it was decided to use sensors that, suitably distributed around the perimeter of the Stadium, will activate visual and acoustic alarms allowing suitably trained personnel to intervene promptly. The system is, however, able to operate autonomously and automatically open safely if the wind load exceeds the design safety threshold.

The entire system will be operational even in the event of a power failure by means of appropriately sized UPS units. Imagine the scene: 70 doors opening in groups and in simultaneous succession on via Filadelfia and on via Spano.

IRIDIUM DOORS deployed all its technical and production skills to realise this project and deliver a product that we can define as ‘tailor-made’ due to the high degree of customisation achieved in order to satisfy the request in its various aspects: functionality, aesthetics and safety.
Being part of the project to modernise the blinds system of the Filadelfia Stadium in Turin makes us proud not only for the great challenge that the project in itself represented, but also for the important contribution that this work will bring in terms of safety and tranquillity of the neighbourhood.
“‘Challenges do not worry us,” declares Managing Director Nadia Biamonte.
“Our experience in design, production and installation of industrial doors was indispensable in order to achieve this ambitious goal.”
This project will be in the public eye, the whole city and not only Torino fans will be able to see the technical evolution of the Filadelfia Stadium's blinding system thanks to the work of IRIDIUM DOORS.

We would like to thank the Torino FC Spa for the trust given to us, Rasero Tende, Stake S.r.l. for the installation and all the collaborators who allowed us to achieve this result.
